Review
Araxis Merge Professional provides an advanced multiplatform system designed to help us compare up to three files at a time. It is possible to use this utility to compare, synchronize, and merge binary, image, or text files. This program can be set up to detect and close automatically the files that are identical, thus saving our time and work. When comparing files, we can opt to display them on horizontal or vertical panels. This application can display a statistics report about all the differences found. The quality of the reports is excellent, as we can view the compared files side-by-side, with all the differences marked by different colors. We are let to set up these colors at our choice. We have the possibility to save the reports as HTML, XML, UNIX Diff, or HTML.
The context-sensitive GUI is quite nice. There are two versions of Araxis Merge: Standard and Professional. The Professional version differs from the Standard one only in two features that let us compare up to three files at a time, and view them horizontally or vertically. These additional features also increase considerably the price of this Pro edition.
There is a fully functional trial of the Pro version available (the same for both editions). |
